Four People Encounter Shark While Swimming
On Thursday, July 4, 2024, four people encountered a shark while swimming in the waters off South Padre Island, Texas.
Shark Attacks Three Victims
From late Thursday morning to about 12:30 pm, at least one shark attacked up to three victims within South Padre Island's city limits.
Severe Leg Bite Sustained
One person suffered a severe shark bite to the leg, while the other two victims sustained less serious injuries.
21-Year-Old Man Bitten
In a separate incident, a 21-year-old man was bitten by a shark off South Padre Island on Thursday afternoon.
Multiple Victims Treated in Hospital
All four victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The person with the severe leg injury is reported to be in stable condition.
Warning Issued
Officials are urging swimmers to be aware of the presence of sharks in the area and to take precautions when entering the water.
